Melissa officinalis has a fresh lemon scent. A delicious herb for tea blends, for use in salads, or in fruit juices. It cannot be missing from your aromatic herbs! This versatile plant attracts bees and keeps mosquitoes away, it is also very resistant to winter. Lemon balm is a plant perennial herbaceous often widespread in vegetable gardens and gardens, suitable to be also grown in pots in the garden on the balcony. It is a spontaneous plant very resistant. CARE For the lemon balm, choose large enough jars and fill them with some fresh and light soil. Lemon balm is among the plants you can grow in the shade on the balcony, a shaded area is therefore the ideal place to place the pot. The same rule applies to lemon balm which is very important for all aromatic plants, empty the saucers regularly to prevent the roots from rotting due to water stagnation, the leaves dry up and the plant suffering. Lemon balm is particularly luxuriant in spring and summer, on the hottest days then water it twice a day, early in the morning and in the evening, otherwise one irrigation a day is enough, preferably in the evening to prevent the water from evaporating too quickly when the sun arrives. Try to water the soil directly without wetting the leaves so as not to damage them. COLLECTION OF LEAVES There collection of lemon balm leaves occurs in summer, before flowering. Do not collect the lemon balm leaves when they are fresh for immediate use but let them dry in a dry and ventilated place, outdoors inside a paper bag, for later use. If you want to follow the tradition you can pick it up on June 24, St. John`s Day. CURIOSITY ` Lemon balm is a plant rich in beneficial properties. Its fresh and dried leaves are mainly used to prepare relaxing herbal teas, which facilitate good sleep, digestion and stress reduction. Pot dimension: 14 cm.
