The Adiantum Raddianum Capelvenere fern is an evergreen plant that loves constant temperatures and penumbra.

It is used to contrast taller plants, to screen pots in floor arrangements or as a decorative and aesthetic example of vertical planters or hanging pots. Pay attention to changes in weather conditions: the plant is disturbed by air currents, cigarette smoke and gas fumes, and reacts quickly to similar changes.

THE ENVIRONMENT

The ideal for this plant is a minimum temperature of 10 ° C and a maximum of 24 ° C; a constant temperature of 16-21 ° C will ensure optimal growth.

BRIGHTNESS

This plant requires a bright environment but protected from direct sun. It also tolerates a slightly shaded position well.

THE WATERING

It is advisable to wet abundantly only when the soil surface is dry to the touch. Do not let the soil dry out completely, nor leave the pot immersed in water.

HUMIDITY

It needs a high humidity rate all year round: thin leaves do not like being sprayed; therefore increase the humidity of the air by placing a bowl full of water next to the plant. Alternatively, add pebbles that hold the water in the saucer, taking care that it never remains immersed in it.

THE FERTILIZATION

Fertilize every 2 weeks cultivated in peat-based soil; every month if in soil based on oily earth.

Repot in a larger pot at the beginning of spring if roots appear on the soil surface: do not press too hard and do not cover the center with soil.

The maidenhair fern is ideal for a humid environment such as a bathroom. However, do not use aerosol products such as deodorants or hairsprays.

PROBLEMS AND REMEDIES

The maidenhair fern can be attacked by the cotton scale, which can be eliminated by wetting the roots with diluted malathion. It is not particularly subject to other pests, but an incorrect wetting method or an insufficient humidity rate can make the plant sick and result fatal.

Root rot: too much water or irregular wetting.

Leaves that become brown and crumbly: too dry air (for example, too close to a heater) or place too exposed to harmful air currents.
