You can place this elegant plant even in a nice little place in the house. The winter-hardy camellia blooms from the beginning of spring. In case of severe frosts protect the plant. Find the camellia a point in twilight and make sure the soil doesn't get too dry but at the same time doesn't stay too wet. You can prune the camellia after flowering.

CARE

Camellia grows well with climate mild and in light soils, not calcareous and well drained. Every year add a mixture of peat and dry leaves to the ground. It cannot stand heat, high temperatures and lack of moisture in the soil. It prefers aexposure to half shade or sunny in cool enough areas and above all sheltered from the wind. Camellia tolerates cold and even low temperatures. In summer it requires a'watering abundant and in the hottest periods also wet the leaves, better in the late afternoon to avoid getting them burned by the sun, reduce the quantities in winter. An incovneniente can be caused by the calcareous soil that causes dark spots in the leaves. USA rain water to wet it. Remove the flowers once they have withered in order to give more strength and vigor to the plant and the formation of new shoots.

They are resistant plants, when the climate is particularly cold, however, it takes the plant to a warmer place, so where the winter temperatures are rigid, it is better to grow the camellia in a pot that can be moved to the shelter.

In March, spread a layer of fertilizer or garden soil around the plant. In mid-summer you can fertilize the plant with potassium-enriched fertilizer.

Camellias don't grow fast, then it is necessary to prune them only for an aesthetic reason. In May you can cut the branches that do not look good, if the camellia has overgrown, you can prune it radically.
