Primrose is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Primulaceae family, native to various areas of the Northern Hemisphere. At least 500 species exist in nature.
They grow and flower on the ground and can reach 30 cm in height. They are beloved because after the long winter , they are the first to release their most imaginative colors and blooms .
Red, purple, pink, white and many other shades, you can have fun matching them or creating very original colour combinations!
TREATMENT
It is a very simple plant to grow , you will only have to follow a few small precautions to ensure it grows healthy and lush.
Repot them in slightly larger pots every two years to encourage growth, and choose a partially shaded location, sheltered from strong drafts. The best spots are where they receive direct sunlight only in the morning or late in the day. They cannot tolerate heat and should be grown outdoors at temperatures no higher than 25°C. They love humidity; water them regularly as soon as the soil feels dry, being careful not to let water stagnate, which is particularly dangerous for the root system.
Use a general-purpose potting mix rich in peat and sand to aid drainage. They prefer fertile, humus -rich soil. Fertilize twice a month in spring, but don't overdo it, as this will burn the plant.
Remove dead flowers and leaves to strengthen the plant and prolong its flowering period.
CURIOSITY'
The term Primula derives from the Latin Primus , meaning "chronologically," a clear reference to the time of year when they bloom. They are, in fact, the very first blooms of spring!
